Meteorological winter in Australia begins on 1 June and runs through to the end of August, using the same fixed calendar-month system as the other seasons rather than the June solstice used elsewhere. This countdown tracks the exact time left until that 1 June start date.

Winter looks very different depending on where you are — genuinely cold with occasional snow in the alpine regions of Victoria and New South Wales, mild and simply less humid in Sydney and Brisbane, and the main wet-and-dry-season marker further north where "winter" mostly just means the dry season.
